About Fő tér

The Fő tér is the reference point of Szentendre’s old town. The narrow façades and cobbled streets create a different scale from the capital. The square opens where small lanes meet, rising to the higher part of town and descending toward the Danube.

The city’s history is tied to communities of various origins and to an artistic tradition visible in its galleries. A stroll through the square lets you notice roofs, door details and the irregular layout of the streets without needing to enter every building.

Allow time to leave the square and reach the riverbank. The two settings are close and help explain Szentendre’s position along the Danube Bend. The stone pavement and short slopes call for a slower pace than a typical avenue ride.
