About Margitsziget

Margitsziget occupies an elongated strip in the Danube, north of Budapest’s central core. Its position between the banks lets you swap façade routes for garden paths and resting areas for a few hours.

The walk alternates green spaces and references to the island’s history, including remains of religious occupation. The interest does not require covering every spot: the long shape favors choosing a section, walking it and observing the river from different sides.

Decide where to enter and exit to avoid returning along the entire island on the same route. Access by public transport and bridges should be checked according to your starting point. Fountains and external programs operate seasonally; the garden walk is the base of the described route.
