About Látrabjarg

Látrabjarg forms a long series of cliffs on Iceland’s west. The rocky wall rises before the Atlantic and gives a sense of the scale of this coastal stretch. viewpoints are reached via local roads and by walking.

Seabirds commonly use the cliffs during the breeding season, mainly between May and August depending on the species. The visit does not depend on sighting a particular bird: the rock shapes and their relationship with the sea already define the promontory’s landscape.

The visit requires a dedicated detour from Patreksfjörður and should take into account travel time for the round trip. Choose the walking section depending on light, the day’s conditions and local advice. It is not necessary to walk the entire cliff length to appreciate the site.
