A region to enjoy
at your own pace.

Gyula is in southeastern Hungary and brings together heritage programs and thermal water within a park area. The brick castle presents a lowland fortification, different from the hilltop ruins found in the north of the country.

The Almásy Palace adds the routine of an aristocratic residence and the work of the household staff. The Várfürdő baths complete the itinerary with aquatic activities, with a separate entrance from the two historic buildings.

Trains and buses serve arrivals, with some connections via Békéscsaba. Summer, from June to August, usually brings warmer weather and more use of the outdoor areas; winter, from December to February, requires checking indoor sections and making the most of the short daylight in the park.

Before you go

Practical information

A little planning leaves more time to enjoy the journey.

When to go

April to June and September to October are usually mild for the monuments and the park. June to August can be hot with more outdoor offerings at the aquatic complex. From December to February, prioritize indoor areas and covered baths available.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

How many days to stay

Two days allow one for the castle and palace and another for the baths. With only one day, choose the cultural program or shorten visits before the bathing period.

Which city to stay in

The park surroundings bring the castle, palace and thermal complex close together. The central area makes meals and walks easy. Near the station, arrival is simpler, but account for the stretch to the main attractions.

Respect the place

Take your trash with you, follow the signs and support local businesses. In natural areas, follow the visiting guidelines.
