When to go
May, June and September usually favor the palace and the trails. From June to August the days are long, with stronger heat in July and August. December to February usually has a wet winter and short days.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
On foot in the palace and along the Riva; bus for the surroundings. A vehicle helps for Klis and Salona, but separate logistics are needed for the islands.

Frequently asked questions
Is Split a good base for the islands?
Yes. The port has connections to different islands, but each route has its own destinations and operating seasons.
How many days to stay only in Split?
Three days allow you to see the palace, Marjan and part of the surroundings, not counting island days.
Are the palace and the cathedral the same entrance?
The streets of the core and the visitable sections have different access points; the cathedral requires its own planning.
Is it possible to combine Salona and Klis?
Yes, by checking transport between the access points. Allow time for the archaeology and for the fortress, on uneven terrain.
