About Neusiedler See

The Neusiedler See is a shallow lake on the Austria–Hungary border. Reedbeds, open areas and vineyards create a landscape different from lakes surrounded by mountains.

The Fertő-Neusiedler See cultural landscape is recognised as a World Heritage site. A visit can combine shoreline points and bike routes, without needing to circumnavigate the whole lake. Water levels and navigation conditions vary with rainfall and other natural factors.

Choose a shore and a route compatible with your transport. Between May and September there is usually a greater offer of water activities, but you should check whether they are operating. Rust lets you get close to the landscape and then return to a small historic core, without crossing a border to visit the Austrian side.
