A region to enjoy
at your own pace.

Kutná Hora grew with silver mining and preserves buildings tied to that wealth. The Church of Saint Barbara dominates the upper part of the center, while the Italian Courtyard shows the link between mining and minting. Distances in the old core make it possible to learn this history on foot.

Sedlec is a different area of the visit. There are the ossuary and the Cathedral of the Assumption, two nearby buildings with different approaches. It's better to organize monuments by neighborhood than to cross the town several times. Those arriving by train should check the connection between the main station and the stops in the center.

The town works as a day trip from Prague, but spending a night allows visiting interiors with less hurry. Czech names appear on connection boards; look for Kutná Hora rather than only a translated destination. In the European winter, from December to February, days are usually short and favor an itinerary with few neighborhood changes.

Kostnice Sedlec

The Sedlec Ossuary occupies the lower chapel of the Church of All Saints, in a cemetery of Kutná Hora. Human bones were arranged into decorative compositions, including a chandelier and a coat of arms. The visit has a religious and funerary character, different from a curiosity exhibition.

Katedrála Nanebevzetí Panny Marie a svatého Jana Křtitele

The Cathedral of the Assumption of Our Lady and St. John the Baptist is in Sedlec, outside the central core of Kutná Hora. The building served as the church of a Cistercian monastery and is part of the city’s historic heritage. The bright, elongated nave creates an experience different from the ossuary chapel nearby.

Vlašský dvůr
Kutná Hora · Boêmia Central · Palace

Vlašský dvůr

The Italian Courtyard was the site of a mint and a royal residence in Kutná Hora. The complex helps relate urban architecture to the silver production that sustained the city’s growth. Entry through the courtyard reveals a different scale from the church and the surrounding streets.
