Get to know the place
Szczecin lies on the Oder, near river branches and lakes that signal the Baltic without placing the city directly on the beach. The port landscape appears on the Wały Chrobrego terraces and in the movement of the banks.
The castle of the Dukes of Pomerania forms another axis of the visit, with courtyards and cultural spaces. The city also retains large avenues and green areas; routes can combine architecture and water without depending on a bathing season.
It is a useful base for those crossing northwest Poland and continuing to other Baltic towns. In summer days are usually long; in winter wind and limited daylight change the schedule.

The local experience

Wały Chrobrego brings together terraces and monumental buildings facing the Oder in Szczecin. The promenade follows an elevated edge that allows observation of the river, the banks and part of the port activity, situating the city in a landscape of water and movement.
Before you go
A little planning leaves more time to enjoy the journey.
May to September usually favors walks along the river. From November to February, limited daylight and wind call for shorter walks and indoor visits.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Two days allow for the castle, the terraces over the Oder and urban walks. A longer stay can include the lagoon surroundings, with transport and activity conditions arranged separately.
Śródmieście provides services and trams. The area between the castle and the Oder brings the main routes within walking distance; near Szczecin Główny the advantage is rail arrival and departure.
Take your trash with you, follow the signs and support local businesses. In natural areas, follow the visiting guidelines.
