About Kirkjufell
Kirkjufell sits next to Grundarfjörður on the north coast of Snæfellsnes. The mountain is about 463 metres high and shows visible layers, with a profile that changes considerably depending on the side of observation. The scenery combines relief, water and a strip of coastal settlement.
The small waterfall Kirkjufellsfoss provides a well-known foreground for photographing the mountain. It is part of the same outing, without requiring a separate page or an independent trip. Other spots along the fjord show the relief without the waterfall and help recognize the real shape of the whole.
A landscape visit can be limited to the prepared paths and viewpoints in the lower part. The ascent to the summit is a different activity and not necessary to get to know Kirkjufell. Allow time to change viewpoints and observe the relationship between the mountain, the town and the sea.
