About Seltún

Seltún is located in the Krýsuvík area on the eastern side of the Reykjanes peninsula. The field gathers ground altered by heat, mud pools and steam vents. Yellowish, reddish and pale tones appear among dark volcanic surfaces.

The walk follows prepared paths to observe these formations up close. The amount of steam and the appearance of the pools vary with local conditions. The site allows you to recognize on the surface some of the geothermal processes that also explain the use of hot water in Icelandic life.

It is reached by road, through a stretch of sparsely urbanized landscape. Set aside a dedicated stop to walk and observe the contrasts of the ground. Before traveling, confirm the status of roads and open routes; arrange other peninsula points according to the available road connections.
