About Gufufoss
Gufufoss is located in the valley through which the road descends toward Seyðisfjörður. The waterfall is part of the Fjarðará river and forms a wide curtain over a rocky step. Its position allows you to relate the water to the terrain leading down to the fjord head.
The site can be seen during a stop on the route between Egilsstaðir and Seyðisfjörður. The visit brings you close to the valley landscape without requiring a several-hour hike. The appearance of the water and the visibility of the slopes change with rain, wind and cloud cover.
Use the indicated access point for viewing and allow time outside the vehicle. The mountain road is part of the transfer, not a continuous sequence of impromptu stops. Combine the waterfall with the village walk, adjusting the visit to the available light.
