About Reynisfjara
Reynisfjara is a black sand beach west of Vík. The coastal strip combines pebbles, volcanic sand and a wall of basalt columns. The Reynisdrangar sea stacks appear offshore, detached from the shoreline.
The visit focuses on observing the coast, the rock formations and the movement of the Atlantic. The position of the light changes the contrast between the basalt and the sand. The view toward the stacks changes as you walk, with no need for a long crossing.
Access is via the road that branches off Route 1. Upon arrival, follow local guidance and signs for beach sectors. Allow a dedicated stop to photograph the columns and take in the scene; Reynisfjara is a landscape visit, not a place for swimming.
