About Geysir

Geysir gives its name to the geothermal field in Haukadalur and to the phenomenon known as a geyser. The area brings together hot springs, boiling water and mineral deposits. Visitor paths pass points with distinct shapes and colours.

The jet seen most frequently is usually Strokkur, throughout the year depending on local activity. The historic Geysir should not be confused with it. Wait times and the size of each eruption vary; allow time to explore the field without turning an estimate into a fixed appointment.

The visit is on foot along the marked paths. First note the distribution of the springs, then choose a viewing spot for Strokkur. Geysir pairs well with Gullfoss on the same stretch of the Golden Circle, a short drive between the two areas.
