About Tvrđa
Tvrđa is the baroque core of Osijek beside the Drava river. The complex gathers streets, squares and buildings of different uses within the former fortified area. The visit allows you to experience an inland Croatian urban landscape distinct from the stone towns of the coast.
The Holy Trinity Square is a landmark of the route. The façades and remains of the defenses help relate the urban layout to the place’s history. The walk can continue toward the river to see how the old quarter connects to the banks and paths of Osijek.
Allow time to walk between public spaces rather than treating the complex as a single façade. Museum collections have separate entrances and schedules. In spring and autumn, from April to June and from September to October, temperatures are usually more suitable for the route than in the heat of July and August.
