About Stonske zidine

The Stonske zidine run along the slope between Ston and Mali Ston on the Pelješac peninsula. The system comprises walls, towers and enclosures spread across terrain that rises from the settlements. The visit allows you to perceive the relationship between the defenses and the salt-pans landscape.

The available routes do not all have the same length or level of effort. There are sections close to the Ston core and options that continue toward Mali Ston. The view of the salt-production areas helps explain one of the reasons this fortified complex was established.

Decide which section you intend to walk and check which accesses are open. The walk involves stairs and areas exposed to the sun. April to June and September to October are usually more pleasant; in July and August, reduce the number of climbs during the hottest part of the day and allow time for the return.
