How many days

One day for the Flåmsbana and the boat on the Nærøyfjord. One night to go up to Stegastein and see the village without the tour groups. Two days, with a car, to include Borgund and Urnes.

When to go

From May to September trains and boats usually have more departures, and the Aurlandsfjellet road typically opens from June to October. In winter the village is quiet, with snowy slopes, few boats and short days.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

Not for the Flåmsbana, the boat or the village. A car helps for Stegastein, the mountain road, Borgund and Urnes. In summer there are excursion buses to Stegastein and organized trips to the churches.
