Perúgia
Perúgia, capital of Úmbria, sits atop a hill about 450 metres above sea level, with views over the Tiber valley and Assis. It is a university city of Etruscan origin: the Arco Etrusco and the Pozzo Etrusco recall that past. In the centre, the Fontana Maggiore stands between the Cattedrale di San Lorenzo and the Palazzo dei Priori, which houses the Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria and the Collegio del Cambio. Under the city, the Rocca Paolina shelters medieval streets.

Assis
Assis lies on the slopes of Monte Subasio, above the Umbrian Valley, and is the town of Saint Francis and Saint Clare. The Basilica di San Francesco houses the saint's tomb and the frescoes of his life; the Basilica di Santa Chiara holds Clare's remains. The Piazza del Comune has the Tempio di Minerva, and the Rocca Maggiore overlooks the town from above. Below are San Damiano and Santa Maria degli Angeli, with the Porziuncola; on the mountain is the Eremo delle Carceri.

Orvieto
Orvieto sits atop a rock of volcanic tuff, with vertical cliffs over the valley of the river Paglia, in the southwest of Úmbria. The Duomo di Orvieto has a mosaic façade and the frescoes by Signorelli. The city has Etruscan origins, as shown by the Necropoli del Crocifisso del Tufo and the Museo Claudio Faina, and it is excavated underneath: Orvieto Underground, the Pozzo della Cava and the Pozzo di San Patrizio. The Torre del Moro commands views over the whole rock.
