About Moderna Museet Malmö

Moderna Museet Malmö opened in 2009 in a brick building from 1900 that was a power station and later an art centre. The architects from the firm Tham & Videgård added an annex clad in perforated orange metal sheeting, which became the museum's trademark, housing the entrance, the café and a staircase that connects the galleries.

The museum is a branch of Moderna Museet in Stockholm and does not have its own permanent collection. The exhibitions, which change several times a year, combine works from Stockholm's large collection with temporary shows by Swedish and international artists. Exhibitions by names such as Picasso, Yayoi Kusama and Louise Bourgeois, as well as contemporary Nordic artists, have been shown there.

The main hall, the former turbine hall, has a high ceiling and zenithal light, which allows for the display of large works. The building is located in a quiet corner of the centre, a 5-minute walk from Stortorget, and the café in the orange annex is a meeting point.

Because it only has temporary exhibitions, it's worth checking what's on before visiting.
