About Zornmuseet e Zorngården

Anders Zorn was born near Mora in 1860 and became, around the turn of the 20th century, a portraitist of kings and millionaires in Europe and the United States, and a painter of the women and landscapes of Dalarna, capturing the water and light of Lake Siljan. After years in Paris and London he returned to Mora with his wife Emma Zorn and lived there until his death in 1920.

The Zornmuseet opened in 1939 in a building designed by Ragnar Östberg, the architect of Stockholm City Hall. It displays Zorn’s oil paintings, watercolors, prints and sculptures — including portraits, outdoor nudes, Midsommar dance scenes and the young women of Mora in traditional dress — as well as the folk art collection from Dalarna that the couple assembled.

Next to it is Zorngården, the house where Zorn and Emma lived, built and expanded by him, mixing Dalarna wooden traditions with English and other stylistic elements. Inside the house remains as it was, with a high wooden hall, the dining room and the studio. The visit is guided. In the garden there are other old wooden buildings that Zorn brought from villages in the region.

The ticket usually combines the museum and the house. Nearby, on the church square, is the statue of Gustav Vasa made by Zorn.
