About Playa de Pimentel
Pimentel is the nearest seaside resort to Chiclayo, about 11 km from the center. It began as a fishermen's cove and became a port at the start of the 20th century, when the pier was built to take sugar and valley products to the sea. The name honors Captain Ricardo Pimentel, who located an anchorage there closer to Chiclayo.
The wooden pier, about 700 meters long, juts out over the sea and is the main attraction of the beach: from there you can see the coastline, the fishermen and the sunset. Access usually has its own rules and hours; check locally.
On the sand, Pimentel's fishermen still use caballitos de totora, the reed boats of the northern coast, and they usually return from the sea in the late morning. The promenade has early 20th-century summer mansions and fish and ceviche restaurants.
From December to April, when it's sunny, the beach fills with families from Chiclayo. The rest of the year the visit is more about the pier, the promenade and the food.
