About Aboa Vetus Ars Nova
Aboa Vetus Ars Nova brings archaeology and art together in a single complex on the Aura riverbank. In the archaeological section, excavated structures reveal portions of medieval Turku. The other side hosts art exhibitions, creating a visit that crosses different periods and languages.
The interest of the ruins is in observing walls, passages and traces of everyday urban life that remained beneath later buildings. The installation helps interpret these structures without relying only on the palace’s exterior view. The art exhibitions follow their own schedule and may change as needed.
It’s an option to split time between a riverside walk and another museum, especially when it rains. Decide whether you want to see both sections or focus your time on the archaeology. The central location allows you to arrive on foot, without reorganizing the day for parking.
