Urho Kekkonen National Park protects a large area of forest and uplands in northern Finland. Kiilopää is one of the access points used to explore the western sector, close to Saariselkä. The walk lets you observe the transition from forest to more open terrain, depending on the route chosen.
The area has trails for day trips as well as multi‑day routes that require separate planning. Do not use the park’s full extent as a reference for a short visit: choose your route based on the trailhead, elevation gain and duration. The climb to Kiilopää offers a different landscape than a loop on the lower paths.
From June to September walks are usually snow‑free; between December and April winter activities depend on conditions and available routes. Arrange transport between Saariselkä and your chosen access point. For a guided outing, book in advance on the official website and confirm the activity type appropriate for the season.
