A region to enjoy
at your own pace.

Saariselkä provides a service base for exploring the western sector of Urho Kekkonen National Park. Kiilopää adds access to the heights and forest trails. The route should be chosen according to season and duration, distinguishing local walks from multi-day crossings.

Inari represents another axis of the trip. Siida lets you learn about Sámi culture, and Sajos combines contemporary architecture with guided visits. The wooden church of Pielpajärvi requires its own walk outside the village core, while Lake Inari shapes the village landscape.

The two bases lie in a large municipality and require road transport between them. Ivalo airport eases arrival but does not remove the last steps. Allocate nights according to focus: trails and activities in Saariselkä, museums and culture in Inari, rather than treating the region as a rushed day trip from Rovaniemi.

This destination brings together 2 cities: Saariselkä, Inari.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

How many days to stay

Five days allow for arrival, a Kiilopää circuit, Inari’s museums and the walk to Pielpajärvi. Add days for season-specific activities or other outings on the lake.

Which city to stay in

Saariselkä concentrates services close to the region’s routes. Inari brings together Siida, Sajos and the lakeside scenery. Check the distance between your accommodation and each activity’s starting point before booking transport.
