About Yllästunturi
Yllästunturi is located in the municipality of Kolari and has two well-known access bases: Äkäslompolo and Ylläsjärvi. The elevation arranges runs and routes across a landscape of forest and open areas. Choosing the side of arrival affects transport, the start of the activity and the return to lodging.
Winter typically concentrates skiing and snow routes between November and April, depending on conditions and the discipline. From June to September, snow-free trails and cycling gain prominence. Uphill lifts and services operate on their own schedules and should be confirmed before planning the ascent.
The Kellokas nature center, in the Äkäslompolo sector, helps interpret the routes of Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. Do not confuse the piste area with the entire park. Allow one day for the Ylläs sector and another for Pallas, as the regional span does not permit treating the two access points as immediate neighbors.
