About Ålands sjöfartsmuseum
The Åland Maritime Museum is located by Mariehamn’s western harbor. The visit presents shipboard work and the islands’ link to ocean routes. The building houses objects, models and settings that help explain an activity visible in the town’s landscape.
On the adjacent quay is the Pommern, a preserved sailing ship that complements the maritime route. Boarding the ship follows its own season, usually between May and September; check opening times before organizing a combined visit. The on-land museum allows development of the theme even outside that period.
Allow time to relate the exhibits to the harbor landscape. Walking access from the center is simple, but ferry arrival may occur at a different time of day and should not force a tight connection with the ticket. Check which areas are included in the chosen ticket type.
