About Playa de Montañita

Montañita Beach lies in front of the village, in a cove surrounded by hills covered in forest. The beach is long, with light sand, waves year-round, and is the center of village life: early in the morning surfers go into the water; in the afternoon the sand fills with bathers and surf lessons.

At the northern tip of the beach is La Punta, a wave that breaks near the rocks and that made Montañita famous among surfers from many countries. Surf competitions are often held there at certain times of the year. The sections with smaller waves, more toward the center, are used by schools for beginner lessons.

Along the sand there are surf schools that rent boards and wetsuits and give lessons with an instructor. Those who don't surf can walk to the northern tip, watch the surfers from the rocks, or follow the sand toward Olón.

The sea has currents in some sections; swim in the designated areas and follow the advice of lifeguards and instructors.
