About Ayangue

Ayangue is a fishing commune on the coast of Santa Elena, about 20 km south of Montañita. The village sits in a horseshoe-shaped bay, protected by two hills that jut into the sea. For that reason the waves are weak and the water is usually calm, which earned the beach the nickname "Pacific pool."

The sand is wide and light, with colorful fishing boats stopped on the shore and seafood restaurants facing the sea. The bay is good for swimming, kayaking and snorkeling near the rocks on both sides.

From the beach boats depart to diving and snorkeling spots along the coast, such as Islote El Pelado, a marine reserve. Departures depend on the sea and the season: check beforehand.

Ayangue fills up on weekends and holidays, when residents from Guayaquil come to the beach; on weekdays it is much quieter.
