Approximate road distances. Check flights and bus schedules before you travel.
Confirm before booking. Ribe is on the Esbjerg–Tønder line; from Copenhagen it's about 3h30 by train, with a change in Bramming. Billund airport is about 70 km away. By car, Ribe is roughly 1 hour from Billund and 30 km from Esbjerg.
How many days
One day for the centre, the cathedral and a Viking museum; two to include the Ribe VikingeCenter, the night watchman's round and the Mar de Wadden.
When to go
From May to September, with the Ribe VikingeCenter open and the night watchman. The sol negro usually occurs between March and April and between September and October. In winter it is cold with sea wind, and several attractions close or reduce their hours.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
Not for the centre, the museums and the VikingeCenter, 3 km away. For the Mar de Wadden and Mandø, a car, bicycle or guided tour is helpful.
