About Troense

Troense is a village on the east coast of Tåsinge that prospered in the 18th and 19th centuries through shipping: many sailing captains lived there. The streets Grønnegade and Badstuen feature low half-timbered houses with thatched roofs and painted doors, forming one of the best-preserved village ensembles in Denmark.

The small harbour has wooden boats and a marina, facing the Svendborgsund strait and the island of Thurø. The old village school houses a navigation museum, with ship paintings and sailors' objects. Residents tend hollyhocks and climbing rose gardens in front of the houses.

From Troense a path runs along the water to the Castelo de Valdemar, 2 km away. In summer the M/S Helge stops at the village pier.
