The city
Svendborg is the port town in southern Funen, about 1 hour by train from Odense, facing the Svendborgsund strait. Ferries to the island of Ærø and summer boats to Tåsinge — where Castelo de Valdemar and the seafaring village of Troense are located — depart from the harbour. The town centre has sloping streets of old houses, shops and cafés.
