About Baños Termales de La Calera
The La Calera Hot Springs are about 3 km from Chivay, on the banks of the Colca River, in a small valley between mountains. The pools are fed by hot springs of volcanic origin that emerge from the hillside and reach the pools at such a high temperature that they give off steam on cold mornings.
The complex, run by the municipality, has several outdoor and covered pools, with changing rooms, showers, and a small exhibition area about the valley’s culture. The pools face the river and the terraces on the opposite bank.
For visitors coming from Arequipa, a soak in La Calera in the late afternoon helps relax after the drive and the altitude. Mornings are also good, before the groups arrive, when the cold air contrasts with the hot water.
Bring swimwear, a towel and flip-flops. Schedules and rules of use can change: check before you go.
