About Romsdalsmuseet
Romsdalsmuseet is Molde’s open-air museum, with dozens of historic buildings brought from across Romsdal and re-erected in a hillside park in the west of the town. There are farmhouses, barns, raised storehouses, a school, fishermen’s houses and a small wooden church, a replica of an older style used for weddings.
One area recreates the street of an early-20th-century village, the Bygata, with shops, craft workshops and merchant houses as they appeared in small coastal towns of the time. The indoor exhibits show bunad folk costumes from the region, tools, furniture and the history of life on the fjord.
In summer, guides in period costume often demonstrate traditional trades and there are folk dance performances on certain dates. The museum also operates a fisheries section at a different address on the island of Hjertøya, open in summer.
The park is peaceful, with fjord views from some spots, and makes a pleasant short outing for visitors based in the centre.
