About Reinebringen
Reinebringen is the mountain rising behind the village of Reine, and the viewpoint at the top, at about 448 metres, has the best-known view of Lofoten: Reine and its red rorbuer on the islets, the Reinefjord, the E10 bridges and the sharp peaks around, with the open sea on one side and the bays on the other.
The trail starts by the E10, near the Reine tunnel, and climbs via a stone stairway with more than 1,500 steps, built by Nepali sherpa guides to replace the old path, which suffered from erosion. The ascent is steep and continuous, and takes from 45 minutes to 1h30, depending on fitness. At the top, a rocky ridge leads to several viewpoints.
In summer, many people climb late afternoon or at night, under the midnight sun, which typically stays above the horizon from late May to mid-July. The stairway gets crowded on clear days in July and August.
The trail is usually hiked from June to September, without snow. Outside that period, with snow and ice on the steps, the ascent is usually done only with a guide and equipment.
