About Lovatnet

Lovatnet is the lake in the Lodalen valley, which rises from Loen to the south toward the Jostedalsbreen glacier. It is about 11 km long and its water is a milky-green colour caused by rock flour carried in suspension by the glacier rivers. Around it, the mountains rise almost straight from the shore, with waterfalls and snow on the peaks until summer.

A narrow road follows the east shore of the lake, passing farms, small stony beaches and pull-offs. At the head of the valley, after Bødal, the road continues through a short toll section to Kjenndalen, where the Kjenndalsbreen glacier is located. Along the way, the side valley of Bødalen leads to another glacier tongue, Bødalsbreen, via a longer trail.

In summer there is often a passenger boat that tours the lake, offering views of the mountains and waterfalls from the water. There is also kayak and rowing-boat rental at some campsites.

On calm days the lake mirrors the mountains and the snow, and in late spring and early summer the slopes' waterfalls usually carry more water.
