Kristiansand is a port city in southern Norway. The center has streets laid out in blocks and connections to the railway station, boats and the waterfront. Its location makes it possible to include it on an itinerary between Oslo, the southern coast and Stavanger.

Posebyen features the city's wooden houses. On Odderøya, the former silo converted into the Kunstsilo museum shares space with trails and coastal scenery. Dyreparken, outside the center, is often included on trips with children and requires a separate day of activities.

Winters tend to be cold with fewer daylight hours. Museums and walks can be scheduled according to the season, so a visit does not have to depend on sea swimming.
