About Punkaharjun luonnonsuojelualue

The Punkaharju reserve follows a narrow glacial ridge between waters of the Saimaa system. Pines and paths occupy the higher ground, creating a landscape that is better understood on foot than just from a vehicle window. The name Punkaharju also identifies the region and its service core.

Choose a marked section to observe the differences between the ridge, the shores and the forest. There are routes of varying lengths, and the duration of the walk depends on the access used. The scenic road and the hiking path should not be treated as the same experience.

A trip starting from Savonlinna allows combining the reserve with the Lusto museum. Check the start point of the walk and the most suitable railway stop, since the place name does not guarantee disembarking next to the desired section. From May to September there is usually more daylight for routes without snow.
