A region to enjoy
at your own pace.

Koli presents the Pielinen landscape from forest-covered rocky ridges. The Ukko-Koli sector concentrates access to viewpoints, but the national park extends over a larger area. Choosing a route according to the time and terrain is a central part of planning.

Joensuu acts as the arrival gateway and service base for North Karelia. At the Eliel Museum, regional history and culture occupy the old town hall designed by Eliel Saarinen. The urban visit provides context to add before or after the day devoted to the park.

Between the city and Koli, travel depends on road transport. Staying overnight near the park favors more than one hike; keeping your base in Joensuu makes train travel and meals easier. Lieksa, Ruunaa and other natural areas can extend the stay, each with its own itineraries so you don't have to pack everything into a single day.
