About Los Túneles
Los Túneles are located at Cabo Rosa, on the south coast of Isabela, about 45 minutes by boat from Puerto Villamil. They are lava formations in the shape of arches, bridges and tunnels over calm, clear lagoons, formed when lava cooled on contact with the sea.
On the arches and rocks it is common to see blue-footed boobies nesting very close to the trail, as well as Galápagos penguins and sea lions. In the waters between the tunnels, sea turtles, eagle rays, seahorses and fish swim in shallow water.
The tour usually includes a short walk over the lava and snorkeling in an area of rocks and reefs, where white-tip reef sharks rest in crevices.
Reaching the site requires crossing a breaking surf, which the boat makes depending on sea conditions. Tours depend on the sea and can be cancelled.
