The city
Puerto Ayora is the largest town in the Galápagos, on the south of Santa Cruz island, in the center of the archipelago. It has hotels, restaurants, tour operators and the pier from which boats depart to other islands. On the edge of town are the Estación Científica Charles Darwin and the trail to Tortuga Bay; in the highlands, the giant tortoises of El Chato. Sea lions and pelicans share the pier with locals.
