About Ribe VikingeCenter

The Ribe VikingeCenter is an open-air museum that reconstructs, based on regional excavations, what life in Ribe was like during the Viking Age. It sits on land of fields and marshes to the south of the town, by the river, and was built using period techniques and materials.

The route passes a farm with the longhouse of a chieftain, barns and stables, a waterside market with artisan stalls and a warrior training area. Staff and volunteers dressed as Vikings cook on open fires, forge iron, weave, make glass beads and tend cattle, sheep, pigs and horses of old breeds. Visitors can try activities such as archery and handicrafts.

In summer there are markets and reenactor gatherings with staged fights and craft demonstrations, and falconers give displays with birds of prey. The centre is open seasonally, generally from spring to autumn.
