About Svaneke
Svaneke is the second-smallest town with a charter in Denmark, after Ærøskøbing, and lies on Bornholm's east coast, the country's easternmost point. The centre has low houses from the 18th and 19th centuries, painted red, yellow and ochre, with tiled roofs, around the market square and the streets that slope down to the stone harbour.
The village has become a centre for crafts and food: there is a craft brewery, a hard candy factory where you can watch the sugar being pulled and cut, glassblowing and pottery workshops, and a smokehouse by the sea. The windmill Bechs Mølle stands high on the road to Gudhjem, and Svaneke's water tower, designed by architect Jørn Utzon, appears at the town's entrance.
From Svaneke the coastline continues with flat bathing rocks and small coves, and the rocky islets of Ertholmene appear on the horizon.
