About Playa El Agua

Playa El Agua is on the northeast coast of Margarita, in the municipality of Antolín del Campo, about 25 km from Porlamar. It is the island's best-known beach: a stretch of roughly 4 km of light, fine sand between the open sea and a continuous row of coconut palms.

The sea is a deep blue, with waves that arrive strongly for much of the year from the open ocean. On mornings when the sea is calmer, the water becomes transparent close to the shore. The coconut palms provide natural shade, and along the beach restaurants and kiosks with chairs and umbrellas are lined up.

The food is typical beach fare: whole fried fish with tostones, mashed and fried plantain, salad and rice, cazón empanadas, ceviche and coconut water. In the afternoon the beach gains music and activity, especially on weekends and during Venezuelan holidays from July to September.

At the northern end, the sand continues to Playa Puerto Cruz and Pedro González, which are quieter. Behind the beach are hotels and inns, and the fishing village of El Tirano is at the southern end.
