Areguá – Central Destination Assunção and Lago Ypacaraí Capital

How to get there

  • Aeropuerto Internacional Silvio Pettirossi (ASU) Luque · 20 km

Approximate road distances. Check flights and bus schedules before you travel.

Check before booking. Assunção airport is about 20 km away. From Assunção, the regular bus takes about 1 hour; by car it's about 28 km via Luque or via Capiatá. San Bernardino is on the other side of the lake, about 35 km by road.

How many days

Half a day or a full day: the church, the ceramics street, the historic houses and Cerro Koi. With an overnight stay in a guesthouse, there's time for the lakeshore at dusk and to continue on to San Bernardino the next day.

When to go

From April to June and from August to October the weather is usually more pleasant for walking the hills. The strawberry harvest usually runs from July to September, when the town holds the Festival de la Frutilla. From December to February it's very hot.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

Not for the town centre, which is explored on foot and has hills. Cerro Koi is about 2 km from the centre: you can go on foot, by taxi or by car. A car helps if you want to continue to San Bernardino the same day.
