About Olden gamle kyrkje
The old church of Olden was built in 1759, in wood, in the village center, near the mouth of the river that descends from Oldedalen. It is a small, single-nave church with white exterior walls and a dark roof, and it replaced earlier churches on the same site, of medieval origin.
The interior preserves the period wooden pews with shutters, painted decoration with floral motifs, and the 18th-century pulpit and altar. Light comes through small windows, and the church has the simple village-church feel, without luxury, typical of rural churches in western Norway.
Since the end of the 20th century the parish has used a new church next door, and the old one is usually open in summer for visits and for concerts and weddings. The surrounding cemetery has old headstones and views over the fjord.
It is a few minutes' walk from the Olden quay, making it a short visit for those arriving by ship or passing on the way to Briksdal.
