About Låtefossen
Låtefossen is a double waterfall in the Grovsdalen valley, south of Odda. Two parallel drops descend about 165 metres down the slope, coming from Lake Lotevatnet, and join at the bottom, right beside road 13, which connects Odda to Røldal. The road crosses the river on a six-arched stone bridge, and drivers pass through a cloud of water.
The spot has been a classic roadside stop in western Norway since the 19th century, when the route was used by carriage travellers. There's a parking area alongside, a small shop and toilets, and the waterfall is visible up close, just a few metres from the tarmac.
The water volume is usually greater in late spring and early summer with the melt, and after days of rain. On windy days, spray reaches the parking area.
Road 13 continues south through the valley to Røldal and the Haukelifjell mountain, with other waterfalls along the way, such as Espelandsfossen, closer to Odda.
