About Hardangerbrua

The Hardanger Bridge crosses the Eidfjord, an inner arm of the Hardangerfjord, between Vallavik and Bu, near Ulvik and Eidfjord. It is a suspension bridge 1,380 meters long with a 1,310-meter main span, supported by cables between two concrete towers about 200 meters high.

The bridge shortened the route between Bergen and Oslo along road 7, which previously relied on a ferry. On the north side it leads directly into the Vallavik tunnel, where there is a roundabout inside the mountain distributing traffic to Ulvik and Bergen.

Pedestrians and cyclists can cross on a separate lane, with views of the fjord on both sides, about 55 meters above the water. On the south side, in Bu, an elevator and stairs link the road to the cycle path. Walking across takes about 20 minutes.

From a distance, the bridge is clearly visible from the roads along the shore and from boats in the fjord, with the mountains and, in winter, snow in the background.
