About Ørnesvingen
Ørnesvingen, the Eagle’s Bend, is the viewpoint of Ørnevegen, the Estrada da Águia, a section of estrada 63 that descends in 11 tight hairpins from the mountain down to the village of Geiranger, coming from the north from Eidsdal. The viewpoint is at the highest curve, around 620 meters above sea level, and features a concrete-and-glass platform projecting over the slope.
From the platform you can see almost the entire Geirangerfjord: the village and quay below, the fjord stretching westward between the mountains and, on a clear day, the Seven Sisters in the distance on the north shore. The waterfall that falls beside the platform is part of the ensemble designed for the Rotas Turísticas Nacionais.
The road, opened in the early 20th century, is part of the fjord route that links Geiranger to Trollstigen and Åndalsnes, passing via the ferry between Eidsdal and Linge and through the Valldal valley, known for its strawberries.
Parking is small, and the road is narrow, with tour buses in summer. In winter the road may close due to snow or have restrictions; check before you go.
