About Annai
Annai is a makushi village in the north of the Rupununi, where the savannah meets the forest and the Pakaraima mountains. It lies on the dirt road that connects Lethem to Georgetown and has an airstrip, which makes it one of the most used bases for visitors to the northern region.
Nearby lodges such as Rock View Lodge organize savannah rides, hikes on the surrounding hills, birdwatching and visits to makushi communities. The landscape mixes grassland, termite mounds, patches of forest and the first ranges of the northern forest.
From Annai the tracks lead to Surama, to the Iwokrama forest and to Karanambu on the Rupununi River. The trip from Lethem to the village takes several hours on the dirt road, slower in the rainy season.
