About Plages de Rémire-Montjoly

Rémire-Montjoly is the neighbouring town of Caiena, to the east, formed in 1969 by the joining of Rémire and Montjoly. It is where the beaches most popular with the capital's residents are located, on a coastline of light sand between rocky points and forest.

Montjoly beach is the longest, with a promenade, kiosks and holiday homes. At low tide the sand strip becomes wide and is good for walking. Further south, the Anse de Rémire and Gosselin beach form a cove between rocks, with views of the islets offshore, called Îlets de Rémire.

Locals use the beaches to walk, watch the sunset and, at certain times, to observe sea turtles that nest in the area; they usually appear between April and July.

Near the beaches there are trails on forested hills, such as Rorota and Montabo, for those who want to combine beach and hiking. During nesting season, follow the local rules on distance and lights.
