Medellín
Medellín is the capital of Antioquia, in the Valle de Aburrá, at about 1,500 meters of altitude, with mild weather year-round. The downtown has Plaza Botero and the Museo de Antioquia; Comuna 13 showcases street art and the outdoor escalators on the hillside; the Metrocable goes up to Parque Arví. El Poblado groups hotels, restaurants and nightlife. It’s the gateway to Guatapé and the route to the Eixo Cafeeiro.

Guatapé
Guatapé is a small town in eastern Antioquia, about 80 km from Medellín, on the shore of the Peñol-Guatapé reservoir. The houses in the center are painted in bright colors and decorated with zócalos — raised panels on the facades. About 3 km away is the Piedra del Peñol, a monolith with roughly 700 steps to the viewpoint overlooking the reservoir's islands. It's the most popular day-trip from Medellín.
